Virginia’s 20th Birthday Raffle was a limited-edition game that played like most raffles – with one huge prize!

This exciting, limited-time game gave away $1,000,000* on September 20! September 19 was the last day to buy a 20th Birthday Raffle ticket. Unlike our other raffle games, there was no set number of Birthday Raffle tickets that could be sold.

Sales began September 1 and by September 19, 226,331 tickets were sold. Winners were announced at 11 PM on the 20th.

The following winners were chosen:

1 winner of $1,000,000*
3 winners of $20,000
2,000 winners of $20

*Annuity payment provided in equal payments over 20 years.

How do I play Virginia’s 20th Birthday Raffle?
At any Virginia Lottery retailer that sells games through the lottery terminal. The Raffle’s tickets will be sold from September 1st to September 19th. One set of raffle numbers will appear on each ticket you buy. There are no playslips for Virginia's 20th Birthday Raffle. You do not choose your raffle numbers. There will be only one raffle drawing. KEEP your ticket until after the drawing – you’ll need a ticket with a winning number to claim a prize.

Each Virginia’s 20th Birthday Raffle ticket costs $5.
How many Raffle tickets are available?
Virginia Lottery retailers will sell as many 20th Birthday Raffle tickets as players want from September 1 through September 19. There is no limit to the number of Raffle tickets that will be sold.
What are my chances of winning a Raffle prize?
Chances of winning depend on the total number of 20th Birthday Raffle tickets purchased. Specific odds of winning cannot be computed because the total number of tickets that players will buy is unknown.

How many winners will there be?
More than 2,000 people will win prizes:

One - $1,000,000 winner (Annuity payment provided in equal payments over 20 years.)

Three - $20,000 winners

2,000 - $20 winners.
Can I pick my own numbers?
No. Tickets will be sold in sequential order from the lottery terminal. There is no playslip or manual number entry involved in this game. Each Virginia’s 20th Birthday Raffle ticket will have a unique number - there will not be any repeat or duplicate Raffle Numbers.
How will the winning raffle tickets be selected?
The Virginia Lottery is very serious about the security and integrity of our games. Winning Raffle Numbers will be selected by a computerized random number generator. The random number generator software has been certified using widely accepted statistical analysis formulas by an outside gaming device and systems testing laboratory.

As with all Virginia Lottery drawings, representatives of the Virginia Lottery’s Security Department and an external auditor will be present to conduct and certify the drawing.
Can I cancel a 20th Birthday Raffle ticket if I don’t like the numbers?
No. Virginia’s 20th Birthday Raffle tickets cannot be canceled.
When will the drawing take place and how will I know the winning numbers?
The 20th Birthday Raffle drawing will take place on September 20, 2008. Complete results of the 2,004 winners will be available at www.valottery.com at 11:00 p.m. and retailers will post the winning numbers in the days after the announcement. Players may also check winning numbers by texting their raffle ticket numbers to “82568”.
